DAY 1: CUSCO – THERMAL BATH LARES – CUNCANI – QUEULLACOCHA (5H)
Depart early in the morning by bus, till the town of Calca 1H where we stop ½ h, than Continue to “Lares” for about 3 H drive. This is the capital of the district with the same name, a large village, whose principal attraction are its pleasant hot springs, where we can enjoy a dip . Later we start our walk until Trapiche 20 minwhere we take lunch, and take the turn to climb to Cuncani (3780mt). We walk thru a fertile valley with more vegetation, crops and agricultural communities. Along the trail we may see native flowers such as begonias and wild orchids. We walk on an uphill path that passes along the beautiful Queullacocha lagoon where we find our first campsite close to a Laguna 4150Mt.
DAY 2: ABRA HUILQUIKASA – QUISHUARANI – SOROY COCHA (7H) On day 2, we continue our hike towards the mountain pass, the Abra Willkiccasa (4400m), offering impressive views of both sides of the pass, especially of the Colquecruz and Pitusiray mountains. 2 h In the afternoon we continue on the trail along changing puna, lakes and agricultural areas, we can see a number of bird species. After Lunch we pass by two brilliant glacial lakes, Suirococha and Yuraccocha. Here we can see Andean Ibis and Andean goose. We cross the pass called Pachacuti (4,500 meters). Near the top of the pass, we will enjoy a spectacular view of the snow-covered peaks of Pitusiray (5,750 meters) and Chicon (5,500 meters). An original Inca stone path will lead us along the ridge down into the opposite corridor. We will follow a series of cascading waterfalls on the way down. We will camp in Soroy Cocha 3800 Mt close to a beautiful lagoon.
DAY 3: SOROY COCHA – ANCHA CANCHA – HUARAN – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES (5H) After Breakfast we walk for approximately 5h ,going down in a valley with lush vegetation and that will take us to Huaran, 2280 Mt, where we will stop for lunch. From here we take the local bus to Ollantaytambo for about 1 h20. In Ollantaytambo we take in the afternoon the train to Aquas calientes where we will sleep in a hostal.
DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO After an early breakfast we will take one of the first buses to visit the historical sanctuary of Machupicchu, where we will have a guided visit for about 02:00 hrs, later we have some free time. In the afternoon we will take the bus back to Aqua Calientes from where we take the train to return to Cusco. Arriving in the evening.
